Trial Kerrang! Radio station launches in Birmingham

LONDON - Kerrang!, Emap's rock and nu-metal weekly magazine, is launching an FM radio station in Birmingham, the hometown of ageing rocker and star of his own reality TV show Ozzy Osbourne.

The station will be on air initially for one month only, ahead of a bid by the Kerrang! team for a West Midlands radio licence when it comes up for auction next year.

Kerrang! Radio is on air now until August 9 on a restricted service licence at 87.7FM from the grounds of Birmingham City Football Club. It is also available online at kerrangradio.co.uk.

The station will play music across all classic and contemporary rock genres. Featured artists include Puddle of Mudd, Korn, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and System of a Down.

The trial will also see the Kerrang! Radio team hold a series of public meetings to allow locals to talk about what music they want to hear.

The feedback will then be used by Emap to help put together its bid, which it will submit to the Radio Authority when it invites bids for the licence in the new year.
