Earls Court and Olympia have become one of the first exhibition venues to be certified by the new international standard for event sustainability.

The new standard – ISO 20121 – was launched earlier this week at Locog’s offices, where Emma Wellman, EC&O Venues’ sustainability advisor, was presented with a certificate.

Wellman said: "We are extremely proud to maintain our position at the forefront of event sustainability. ISO 20121 will provide an essential template for the events industry to ensure it maximises its positive social, ethical and environmental impact. I’d like to thank all those at both Earls Court and Olympia whose tireless work has helped us achieve this milestone, and we also look forward to helping our customers attain certification themselves."

Wellman said EC&O will be developing the support given to event organisers on sustainability by embedding its Carbon Voyage transport initiative, and increasing usage of its online sustainability system to use for reporting on events at the venue.
