LONDON - eBay has called a pitch for its £22 million pan-European ad account following the consolidation of its marketing teams into Zurich.

The auction site is understood to have a made a shortlist of agencies as part of the review.

eBay European marketing director Torsten Schuppe is leading the review, which was expected after the marketing team was shifted to Switzerland late last year.

eBay roster agencies in Europe include Albion, Euro RSCG and Springer & Jacoby. eBay is also expected to review its UK media account, which is held by PHD, this year. Carat temporarily held the account over Christmas.

eBay's global fourth quarter revenues fell by $145m year-on-year to $2bn, the first quarterly decline for the online auction site.

Schuppe was appointed as UK marketing director in February 2008 but in March the company announced a ‘globalisation and centralisation effort' expected to lead to 150 redundancies or 1% of eBay's workforce.

The UK marketing team was asked to reapply for limited vacancies in Zurich, with UK marketing director Schuppe taking the role of European marketing director.

Minal Shah, eBay's head of internet marketing in the UK, is leaving the business in March following the consolidation.

Shah was responsible for ramping up its online marketing activities, bringing in Manchester-based affiliate marketing agency R.O.Eye last autumn to support eBay's Partner Network.
