Draft FCB wins Atari global creative task

LONDON - Draft FCB London has won the global advertising account for the iconic video games brand Atari, following a two-way pitch.

The agency beat Euro RSCG 4D in a final shoot-out held in New York last month. Agencies from the UK and the US were involved at an earlier stage. It is the first pitch Draft FCB has won since the merger of the two agencies was announced last month.

Draft FCB's first task will be to redevelop Atari's website. The brief will also include brand advertising and strategy, DM and online, which will run internationally.

Atari is aiming to increase its share of the $10bn global video games market, which is dominated by EA Games and Activision. The brand shot to fame in the 70s and 80s, with games such as 'Pong', 'Space Invaders' and 'Asteroids'. It currenlty produces games such as 'Dragonball Z' and 'V-Rally 3'.

Earlier this month, the company announced a restructure of its UK operations, resulting in the axing of its marketing director role, held by Richard Orr. The shake-up came as the company revealed a loss of $6.2m for the final quarter of 2005 and an annual loss of $69m.

Draft FCB declined to comment.
