After working as the association's interim CEO, F2F Events managing director Austen Hawkins has been given the role on a permanent basis.

In their new roles both Emslie and Byrom will also take a place on the EIA board, which next meets on 29 September.

Emslie said: "I am very pleased to be part of the new leadership team at the AEO at this interesting time for our industry. There will be exciting growth opportunities for our members as we come out of recession. The launch of an industry promotion campaign is a key step in the association's drive to grow our industry for the benefit of all members."

Commenting on becoming the CEO, Hawkins added: "There is no doubt that we are in challenging times, and since I took up the role of CEO at the AEO in February this year I have enjoyed the full support of the board. I would like to thank Philip Soar for his help during this time and look forward to working closely with Douglas and Paul."

"I am massively optimistic about the role, both presently and in the future, that the AEO can play in the industry. We will be launching a raft of initiatives in the coming months, one of which is the industry promotion campaign that will provide support and value to organisers of all sizes."
