Donations to London bombings appeal can now be made via iTV

LONDON - Digital TV viewers are able to donate money to those affected by last week's bomb attacks on London by pressing the red button on their remote control, thanks to not-for-profit organisation the Community Channel.

The charity broadcaster has provided the interactive donation service to Sky News, Sky Active and Channel 4, enabling the British public to make donations to The London Bombings Relief Charitable Fund.

The fund was set up last Friday by London Mayor Ken Livingstone and charity the British Red Cross. Donations will be used to provide financial support to victims of the attack, as well as people dependent on those killed or seriously injured.

The Community Channel is a Media Trust initiative and provides the UK's only year-round interactive TV donation service. Earlier this year it raised more than £500,000 for the Disasters Emergency Committee's tsunami appeal.

The Home Office's volunteering and charitable giving unit funds the Community Channel, while Sky donates the capacity to broadcast it.
