Blair blames Islamist terrorists says Financial Times

LONDON – The Financial Times leads its front page with the headline 'Blair blames Islamist terrorists as London attacks kill at least 37' followed by five full pages of coverage after London was hit by the worst terrorist attack in its history.

A front-page picture shows the mangled remains of the number 30 double-decker bus that was blown up by Tavistock Square, killing at least two people, possibly including the bomber in an echo of the 1996 incident when an IRA bomber died in similar circumstances.

The newspaper contrasts the joy of winning the Olympic bid with a day of sorrow as four bombs exploded in the rush hour injuring at least 700 injured, with an article written by Frederick Studemann and Nicholas Timmins.

The paper features a time-line of events that devastated rush hour commuting and resulted in horrific scenes as rescuers battled to respond to the emergency.

A large map detailing where the bombings took place with the headline "I could see bodies all over the floor" takes prominence on page three.

Reporters from Madrid, Gleneagles and Washington give their reaction to the events with political, law and market correspondents giving a wider perspective on the terrorist attack.
