Disney appoints Mattel boss to EMEA games and toys role

LONDON - The Walt Disney Company has poached Mattel's international marketing director Paul McGarry to bolster demand for Disney toys such as Donald Duck and Winnie the Pooh.

Disney appoints Mattel boss to EMEA games and toys role

McGarry takes up the role of regional category director EMEA for Disney consumer products, responsible for games, puzzles, outdoor sports and novelty toys. He reports to vice-president of toys for EMEA Edward Catchpole.

The company is to roll out a range branded 'Disney Princesses', which includes Snow White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty dolls.

McGarry replaces Marianthi Mikhalitsi, who has become director of UK toys. Part of his role will be to identify new trends as Disney toys face increased competition from video gaming and brands such as Nike.

Mattel will not replace McGarry as his role will be carried out from the US.
