Debenhams trials touch-screen kiosks

LONDON - Retailer Debenhams is to trial a new touch-screen service in stores which it hopes will grow sales of electrical goods by converting shoppers from browsers to buyers.

Debenhams' flagship new Westfield London store, which opens on 30 October, will trial the touch screen kiosks, which provide customers with advice and recommendations on electrical products.

The shopper selects the category of electrical product they are looking for and specify price, feature/functionality and brand preferences. A selection is then presented to them and they can print out the products they are recommended.

The kiosks are expected to help Debenhams to cross-sell products and encourage shoppers to invest in a more expensive item.

The service, provided by Retec Digital, will be used to sell TVs and home entertainment systems, kitchen appliances and personal care items.
