Debenhams forecasts higher profits

LONDON - Debenhams is expecting a boost in its profits for 2009, despite sales falling due to in-store layout changes.

Debenhams forecasts higher profits

The retailer has been increasing the amount of floor space allocated to its own clothing brand, which traditionally delivers better margins, at the expense of its concessions.

While like-for-like sales fell 3.6%, gross margins rose 70%.
