
Beckham will be joined by five young people from around the UK for the Olympic Flame Handover Ceremony, which will start at 5pm BST at the Panathenaic Stadium in Athens.
The British delegation to Athens is led by The Princess Royal, president of the British Olympic Association; Sebastian Coe, chair of Locog; Hugh Robertson minister for Sport and the Olympics and Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London.
After the ceremony, the flame will board flight BA2012, a special gold-liveried aircraft provided by British Airway. It will fly to the Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose in Cornwall, landing tomorrow evening (18 May).
It will then begin its 70 day journey around the country in the , finally arriving at the Olympic Stadium in London for the Opening Ceremony in July.
The young people joining Beckham were selected from schools and colleges involved in the London 2012 education programme Get Set and schools which have been linked with schools in Athens in a programme run by the British Council.
Sebastian Coe, Chair of Locog, said: 'We wanted to involve young people from across the UK in bringing home the Olympic Flame. Their stories of personal achievement and contribution to sport echo the 8,000 inspiring Torchbearer stories that will be shared from this weekend and over the next ten weeks in the build up to the start of the Games. Working with one of our most inspiring sportspeople [David Beckham] is also fitting for this hugely exciting time for the London 2012 Games.'"
