Passes for the event taking place at Leeds Castle on 19 July were scheduled to be released yesterday, but Maistone Borough Council pushed the ticket release back to tomorrow due to huge demand for other celebrations. Tickets will now be released through a ballot rather than on a first-come first-served basis.
The event coincides with the Olympic Torch's overnight stop on its 70-day relay around the UK. Artistes performing include pop act Rizzle Kicks.
Tickets for Guildford’s event to celebrate the torch’s arrival – taking place the night after Maidstone’s celebration and also featuring Rizzle Kicks – sold out within four hours of being released.
A statement from the council said: "Because of huge demand for tickets to other evening celebrations, the ticket release for Maidstone’s Torch Relay Evening Celebration has been put back to Wednesday 23 May. Tickets will not be allocated on a first-come first-served basis. Applicants will have until Friday 8 June to apply for tickets and then there will be a ballot. 80% of tickets will go to Maidstone Borough postcodes."
Maidstone is also holding free concert at Mote Park at the same time, where visitors can watch entertainement from inside the castle on big screens.
