The celebrity skating show continued in strong form with a 30.9% share of the audience between 6.45pm and 8.45pm, after which 'Wild At Heart' pulled in 7.4 million viewers and a 27.6% share.

BBC One managed 6.9 million viewers with 'Antiques Roadshow' at 7pm-8pm followed by 6.3 milllion viewers for hour-long costume drama 'Lark Rise to Candleford'.

The chance to see the prime minister become the latest politician to get emotional on TV, interviewed by Piers Morgan, was taken by 4.2 million viewers immediately after ITV1's 'Dancing on Ice' skate-off show, which drew 7.4 million.

The Gordon Brown interview took a 22.7% share of viewing between 10.15pm and 11.15pm, way ahead of BBC One's 'Great British Railway Journeys', which managed 2.5 million viewers.

On Saturday it was the BBC ruling the roost with 5.3 million viewers seeing the final of 'So You Think You Can Dance' and 6.2 million tuning in for 'Casualty'.

ITV1's biggest audience on the night was 4.8 million viewers thanks to 'Harry Hill's TV Burp'.

Coverage of the Winter Olympics over the weekend helped BBC Two to some substantial audiences, including a peak of 3.2 million and an average of 2.8 million on Saturday night.
