Current TV in deal to air new Portishead album

LONDON - Current Media, the TV network founded by former US vice-president Al Gore, has signed an exclusive content deal with Bristol band Portishead.

The agreement is similar to one Current TV made with Radiohead to air performances of material from the band's recent 'In Rainbows' album.

This latest tie-up has resulted in Portishead producing a special -- at 10pm on 11 April Current will premiere an un-hosted interview with the band, followed by a pre-recorded performance of the band called 'Portishead in Portishead'.

The band said: "Current is the perfect fit for what we are into. We love spreading the word without depending on the corporate machine. Portishead is a fan of Current's innovative vision and style, which is why we are going with the network for this special performance."

The live show coverage features the band performing eight tracks from their forthcoming album 'Third'. Current TV will be broadcasting the 40-minute special 11 hours after it is first webcast via portishead.com. The channel will continue to air the performance until the album's UK release on 28 April.

David Neuman, Current's president of programming, said: "Current is thrilled to serve as Portishead's premier broadcast partner for this special performance. This partnership reinforces Current's mission to spotlight extraordinary artists and their music."

In January, Current announced it plans to float on the stock market, which could raise up to $100m (£50.1m) to repay debts and fund expansion.
