The Miami-based agency, which had held the account for three years, said that there was a difference of opinion between it and Ikea and that it was in the best interest of agency and client to end the relationship.
The resignation of the account follows Ikea reducing its advertising spend in the US and moving work for some of its stores to Santa Monica-based Secret Weapon.
In a statement, Crispin Porter & Bogusky said: "For quite some time, it has been clear to us that we do not share the same vision for Ikea's business.
"While we pride ourselves on the longevity of our client relationships, we also believe that it is in neither party's best interest to continue this relationship. As of this time, we have decided to resign the account."
The agency won the business in early 2002 and went on to defeat Wieden & Kennedy's acclaimed Honda "cog" ad in Cannes in 2003. The Miami-based agency is also behind BMW's Mini advertising.
The creative hotshop, which is part of the marketing services firm MDC Corp, went on in January of this year to win Burger King's $340m US advertising account from Young & Rubicam.
The move was a surprise because Y&R had only held the account for less than a year, but Burger King suggested said that Y&R had not been delivering.
