Cresswell to leave ITV after 22 years

LONDON - ITV chief operating officer John Cresswell, among the candidates to take the helm at the UK's biggest broadcaster, has ruled himself out of contention for the chief executive position and will leave the company as soon as a new appointment is made.

An ITV announcement to the City today (12 October) said Cresswell would assume the position of interim chief executive when the company replaces chairman Michael Grade.

The hunt for a new chairman is reportedly taking place "with all due speed", though Sir Crispin Davis and Sir Michael Bishop have both confirmed they are not interested in the position.

Cresswell becomes the latest high-profile name to be ruled out of contention for the top job at ITV.

The broadcaster terminated discussions with prospective chief executive Tony Ball in September, and with HMV's Simon Fox a month before that.
