The role will involve co-ordinating the flame’s passage through Cornwall on 19 May next year "stimulating excitement" for the London 2012 Games.
The fixed term contract runs from October to May and will see the job-winner work alongside Visit England, Locog and Cornwall Council in the build-up to the event.
But the offshoot of the council has come under fire for creating the role at the time of budget cuts. The Taxpayers’ Alliance said existing staff should be able to take on the work.
A spokesman for Cornwall Development Company told The Sun the wage is a "small amount" given the county could make up to £7m from the torch's visit.
What do you think? Is the Cornwall Development Company wrong to employ someone especially for this role? Or is it only a small amount for an essential job in staging the 2012 Games?
