Conde Nast hands over Vogue as it pulls out of Australia

SYDNEY - Conde Nast is effectively withdrawing from publishing in Australia, selling the licence to publish Vogue and other titles to Australian lifestyle publisher FPCLiving.

It made the announcement today, claiming that the deal would give Conde Nast's magazine titles, which along with Vogue include GQ, Conde Nast Traveller, Vogue Living and Vogue Entertaining & Travel, greater opportunities for long-term, sustainable growth.

"While we have experienced a major turnaround in the company and a period of considerable growth over the past three years, the FPCLiving arrangement creates an exciting new dimension for the titles," Robyn Holt, managing director of Conde Nast Australia, said.

Michael Hannan, managing director of FPCLiving's parent company IPMG, said: "We expect the vast majority of current Conde Nast staff will be offered new positions by FPCLiving under the licensing agreement."

The move will bring Conde Nast's Australian operations in line with those of Japan, Korea and Taiwan.

FPCLiving publishes titles including Delicious, Gardening Australia and Australian Country Style.

Vogue was first launched in Australia in 1959, and between 1972 and 1989 it was published under licence to Bernard Leser Publications. Conde Nast took over publishing in 1989.
