The Prime Minister appointed Lord Carter to the role to produce the Digital Britain report and its follow-up recommendations.
Lord Carter will present his report to Cabinet on Tuesday before it is published later next week. He will then put in place a detailed implementation plan for the report, which is expected to lay out the UK's plans to develop digital TV and radio and increase take-up of broadband internet, before the summer recess.
The DCMS said in a statement: ‘We can confirm that he will step down at summer recess with the completion of his work, as originally intended and with the full agreement of the PM.'
