England and Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has appeared in Co-op's campaign urging consumers to donate to food banks across the country.

The ad shows Rashford as he discusses the need for food bank donations with Co-op staff via a web call. Viewers are encouraged to donate to FareShare through texting "MEALS" to 70490 or directly through the charity’s .

Jo Whitfield, chief executive of Co-op Food, said: "In this time of crisis, we are seeing our communities pull together to really show that a little cooperation by many, can make a big difference to support those who are struggling. We’re determined to do everything we can to support those getting food to those who are most vulnerable. 

Co-op launched its "Calling all local heroes" effort last month after pulling its Easter ad campaign and donating airtime worth £2.5m to fight hunger amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
