Channel 4's Brownlee quits to head ad sales at Handbag

LONDON - Channel 4's commercial development controller Ruth Brownlee has quit the broadcaster to join the women's website Handbag.com, where she will take up the role of ad director.

Before joining Channel 4, Brownlee was group head of agency sales at Yahoo! UK & Ireland. At , she will head a team of four agency sales managers, four client sales manager and two traffic managers, and is charged with offering effective and creative advertising solutions to brands targeting Handbag's audience of ABC1 women.

She replaces Jane Loring, who takes on a role developing long-term strategic advertising partnerships for the site. Brownlee reports to Nancy Cruickshank, managing director of Handbag.com, and will sit on the management team alongside Loring and brand director Alicen Stenner.

According to Cruickshank: "With Ruth at the helm of ad sales, and with major new initiatives planned for this year, we are confident that we will maximise sales opportunities even further by offering our clients and partners an unparalleled range of integrated marketing opportunities."

Handbag recently underwent a "summer makeover", to create more advertising opportunities. The site, a 50-50 joint venture between Boots The Chemist and Hollinger Telegraph New Media, has recently signed advertising deals with Clinique and Ford, as well as securing the services of popular astrologer Shelley von Strunckel to produce personalised astrological reports for users.
