The partnership will give 'Hollyoaks' fans the chance to log on to and sign up to the Hollyoaks Mobile Club, which features a range of exclusive 'Hollyoaks' graphics, ringtones and screensavers.
An SMS alert service gives sneak previews of upcoming storylines and news from 'Hollyoaks'. It will notify subscribers of public appearances and magazine interviews by members of the cast. Fans will also be able to receive text messages from their favourite characters in the show.
The production company is also working with Opera Telecom to launch a Character Bundle service offering users content designed by individual cast members.
Phil Redmond, chairman of Mersey Television, said: "The latest SMS and MMS technologies provide a number of opportunities for us to interact with viewers, making them feel part of the programme and in touch with the cast.
"Our partnership with Opera Telecom enables our web users to download the content they want very easily, at a reasonable cost."
The service will make money for Mersey Television, Opera Telecom, and the phone networks through a revenue-share scheme. Customers can opt-in, for a premium rate, to find out about new promotional services and products being advertised. Opt-in prices will reflect what is reasonable for the target youth market to pay.
All content will be available to users via a premium-rate phone line, credit card or reverse-billed SMS. Opera Telecom will manage all delivery and billing.
