Speaking to Event today, O’Connor said he doubts his role will be directly replaced. "I’m working with Centaur bosses to look at how we structure the team after I leave in December," he said.

O’Connor joined Centaur Exhibitions in March 2008, and has worked on events including Homebuilding and Renovating shows, the National Home Improvement Show, Marketing Week Live, and the Kitchen & Bathroom Show.

Before this he spent eight years at Haymarket Exhibitions, working on an event portfolio including Autosport International, Bike Show and Pistonheads.

O’Connor said it was time for him to take on a new challenge. "I don’t have any concrete plans yet, and I will use this time wisely to decide what direction I want to go in.

"I am looking to stay in the exhibition and events industry. However, I started out in retail, so if something comes up in this area that takes my fancy I might go back into it," he said.
