Celebrity sports company set to float for an estimated £100m

LONDON - Celebrity sports media company Kraken Sport & Media, which features football stars past and present such as David Beckham, Michael Owen and Diego Maradona, is to float on the stock market in a move that is expected to value the firm at £100m.

Kraken Sport & Media makes and publishes large-photo portfolios, which it calls "opuses", of media and sports stars at a cost of around £2,000 each and is also involved in promotions and marketing. It is due to publish the NFL Opus in the US next year, to coincide with the NFL's 40th anniversary.

Founder Karl Fowler, a multimillionaire and former derivatives trader with Goldman Sacks, plans to list the firm on Nasdaq, the US technology exchange.

Fowler set up the company in 2003 with Giles Gleave, formerly of Morgan Stanley and Lehman, and Nick Derbyshire, an former cricketer and HSBC banker.

Kraken has revealed it is adding to its portfolios next year with opuses of Arsenal, Manchester United and the England football team.

There are also reports that Fowler is making a TV series on the England rugby team, as well as a number of other documentaries, according to The Observer.
