CBBC launches new 24/7 interactive service for children

LONDON - The BBC has launched a interactive site for its CBBC children's channel called CBBC eXtra, giving kids the chance to send messages to friends and family, find out gossip on their favourite celebrities and programmes, and get advice from its resident agony uncle.

The new 24-hour red-button service offers features such as On the Spot, where young viewers can ask any question they have about CBBC stars and shows.

A spokesperson for CBBC says the service aims to get a personal answer from the relevant celebrity or the programme team, answering queries such as "How can I win a Blue Peter badge?".

Ask Aaron is CBBC's resident agony uncle who will be on hand to give advice on problems at home, at school or in viewers' personal lives.

Children can use the service to send in their messages and jokes and see them on the TV screen under the More Fun section, which is updated throughout the week.

Also part of the new service is a weekly competition, film and music reviews, recipe ideas, the Top 40 and horoscopes.

The BBC recently appointed Alison Sharman to take over as the new controller of CBBC following her role as controller of BBC daytime.

Sharman has taken over from Dorothy Prior, who moved to become controller of production resources.
