CBBC appoints Deverell as chief operating officer to build digital future

LONDON - BBC News Interactive head Richard Deverell has been appointed chief operating officer for CBBC.

A central part of his role will be to build CBBC's role in a digital future, as well as developing content, ideas and key partnerships in and out of the BBC.

Prior to being appointed as head of BBC News Interactive in 2000, Deverell was controller of strategy and marketing with BBC News.

Alison Sharman, the current controller of daytime who is moving to the post of controller of CBBC, said: "Richard has made a huge success of News Interactive and is regarded as one of the BBC's most respected innovators."

Deverell added: "I believe there is a huge opportunity for the BBC to take a global lead in providing outstanding content for children in the digital age and I'm very much looking forward to being part of the team that delivers this."

He will take up his new post on June 20, when Sharman moves to her new role, as announced last month.
