The store, which closed in 2007, will act as a space for weekly music events. UK rapper Kano will launch the first of these sessions when the store opens on Record Store Day, followed by events from DJ Harvey Love on 1 May, ‘Ladies night’ with spoken word artist Kate Tempest on 15 May and a show curated by Tinchy Stryder and DJ Spyro on 29 May.
Located on 14 Newburgh Street, the shop will showcase work from some of London’s undiscovered visual artists, musicians and fashion designers throughout its tenure. A photo gallery will show memorable moments of the store’s history, along with previously unseen archive footage of performances from the likes of Example, Professor Green, Kanye West and John Legend.
Weekly in-store signings and workshops will also take place.
Deal Real has partnered with City & Westminster College and Creative Media Network to provide an accredited training and employability programme in the store. This will enable ten young people from diverse backgrounds to complete a curriculum of education, mentoring and work experience with Carnaby brands.
Vincent Olutayo, the previous owner of Deal Real, said: "It’s fantastic being able to celebrate the legacy of Deal Real with the community and Carnaby, and together take the opportunity to support up-and-coming talent from music, fashion and art, as well as young people aspiring to establish creative careers."
