The news follows that of Granada, Carlton's partner in ITV and ITV Digital, which announced last week that it is to cut its workforce by 430 on top of the 650 jobs it has already slashed this year.
In May, Carlton announced that it would undertake a restructuring aimed at saving at least £25m and said that the overhaul would include cutting staff.
Granada and Carlton have taken a battering this year as a result of the advertising downturn and the costs of running ITV Digital, which has already cost them £800m and is expected to cost a further £300m before it breaks even in 2003-2004.
The companies have also suffered as the BBC has started to challenge ITV's schedule by broadcasting more programming with mass-market appeal, which has eroded the commercial broadcaster's audience share.
The news of the job cuts comes as the company announced headline pre-tax profits of £118m, down from £193m last time.
