What Car? overtakes BBC's Top Gear with 9% sales rise

LONDON - What Car?, published by Haymarket, has increased its circulation by 9% over the past six months, consolidating its position as the number two title in the sector.

During the same period, BBC's Top Gear 152,067 up 1% in the six months and 5% year on year compared with What Car's 149,346.

However, the Top Gear figure comprises the combined circulation of BBC Top Gear UK, 132, 102, and the International edition, 19,995, which ABC lists separately.

Both titles still lag behind Emap's girls 'n' engines title Maxpower, which is selling an average of 205,113 copies an issue -- down almost 10% on the same period last year.

The quality motoring sector remained steady over the past year, with circulation across the board up by just 0.2%.

Car, published by Emap, recorded a 5% decline in circulation to 108,665 copies, while Haymarket's Autocar fell by 1.6% to 67,614 copies.
