BBC launches Top Gear spin-off with Special extension

LONDON – BBC Magazines is to launch Top Gear Special, a spin-off from its top-selling motor magazine, which will sees elements from the monthly magazine being looked at in more detail.

The new Top Gear Special brand will focus on giving core car-buying advice to those in the market for new and used cars.

The first issue goes on sale this Thursday, providing a comprehensive guide to new cars and will be on sale seven times a year. Four of the seven specials concentrate on new cars, two on the used market, with one magazine on sale in June looking at the top end of the market with extensive road tests on all of the latest supercars.

The magazine will be priced at £4.95 and will be on sale for an eight-week period, including contributions from the 'Top Gear' presenters Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond.

Adam Wadell, publisher of Top Gear, said: "With the general success of both the magazine and the recently revamped 'Top Gear' television programme, we feel the time is right to offer a product that picks up certain aspects of the monthly magazine and investigates them in more detail. While the weekly and monthly titles including Top Gear carry detailed road tests of specific cars, they don't cover every car choice in this way."
