Goodman moves after recently being promoted from deputy to programme director of the Capital FM network excluding the flagship London station, following the merger of Capital and GWR to form GCap. The eight-station strong network includes Beat FM in Glasgow and Edinburgh and Red Dragon FM in Cardiff.
Pringle said the time was right for Capital to have its own programme director to take the station on.
"After two years doing two jobs I feel that 95.8 Capital FM needs a full-time managing director to drive the station forward and to look at the bigger picture," Pringle said.
During the past two years, Capital has replaced Chris Tarrant with Johnny Vaughan on the breakfast show and Neil Fox with Richard Bacon on the drivetime show.
However, despite the changes, the station's share of listening has slipped over the last year. It was the runaway leader in the first quarter of 2004 with 7.9%, but its current 6.1% share puts it second to Heart 106.2.
Goodman's CV includes positions as deputy programme director at Virgin Radio and programme director of Radio Forth in Edinburgh. He joined Capital in October last year. The company is now looking to fill his old role.
There was also a departure from GCap this week as Xfm's head of brand and entertainment sales Andy Carr left for Emap.
He joins in August to take up the new position of commercial director of Kerrang!, covering the brand's sales development across radio, TV and print.
