Grant, who left Capital following its recent merger with GWR, takes on the job of group marketing services director and is charged with driving new revenue streams across titles including the Daily Mail, The Mail on Sunday and Evening Standard.
She reports to Guy Zitter, the Associated group commercial director and the managing director of the Daily Mail. Last week, Associated's parent reported that profits at Associated fell from £50.2m to £48.5m during the first half of its financial year, blamed partly on a fall in circulation at the Daily Mail.
Grant's main task is to identify a third source of revenue beyond cover price and advertising that will boost Associated's profits. She will also take charge of Associated's creative services and research departments.
Associated's newspapers are run as separate business units but Zitter was appointed to the group commercial role last year to find ways in which they could develop shared resources, as well as to improve circulations in London.
Grant, who joins Associated in July, is returning to the company after leaving her role as the marketing director at Metro in 2002 to join Capital. In a 10-year career in newspapers before moving into radio, Grant also worked at Scotsman Publications and Newsquest.
