As part of a below-the-line campaign for the new 'Go Home Show', Capital's marketing team taped Bacon's invitation and played it out to mobile phone owners on their listener database.
The former 'Blue Peter' presenter is fresh blood at the station after eight years of Foxy in the afternoon slot, and extends the younger feel that Johnny Vaughan's arrival in the morning slot last year has given Capital.
The campaign plays on the pairing of Bacon and Vaughan with the message "Wake up with Johnny Vaughan, go home with Richard Bacon". This has been stamped on 30,000 Tube travel wallets distributed to consumers this morning, as well as on the station's branded Land Cruisers, from which retro-style tins of travel sweets are being handed out today.
In addition, sandwich shops have been given 700,000 bags for the lunchtime rush which bear the message "Enjoy some Bacon on the way home" and encourage people to vote for their favourite sandwich shop.
Agencies were played an hour-long pre-launch show last Wednesday, which saw new features such as Teatime Theatre, where the presenter finds two people in the street and gets them to act out a scene from the previous evening's TV. Listeners have to guess which programme it came from.
The pilot can be heard on the Capital website .
Bacon first emerged into the spotlight after a high-profile sacking from his job as a 'Blue Peter' presenter after it came to light that he had used cocaine.
He has since resurrected his career with youth TV presenting duties and radio slots including filling in for Christian O'Connell, the host of Capital's Xfm breakfast show.
