It is not yet confirmed when Button will join Capital, which has been without a senior marketer since the resignation of marketing director Carl Lyons in May.
Button spent eight years at Chrysalis, where he focused on the Galaxy network before joining Kiss in January. Prior to Chrysalis, he worked at Capital and at the BBC's Radio 2.
At Kiss, Button has been involved with a major rebranding and extension of the London station into East Anglia and the South West, which went live last week.
In contrast, Capital has carried out little or no marketing activity since it unveiled a radical strategy at the end of last year, aimed at preventing existing listeners switching off. The number of ads in each break was cut to two and programming was revamped in January.
The former number one in London is now trailing rivals Magic and Heart in share of listening, according to the latest Rajar figures. Capital currently has a 5% market share, beaten by Heart with 6.1% and Magic with 6.5%.
In May, Capital's parent GCap Media consolidated its entire media planning and buying activity into Rocket, reducing its three-strong agency roster to one.
