Capital One chief marketer Basini reveals departure on Twitter

LONDON - Justin Basini, Capital One Europe's head of brand marketing, has left the company.

It is not known where Basini is going next, as he was not available for comment as this story went to press.

The story of his departure from Capital One broke this morning when Basini put a message on Twitter thanking everyone "for giving me a great send off".

Requests for further news from his Twitter followers received the response: "Can’t say where I am going next – it’s still a secret."

Basini made waves at Capital One in his determination to rid the company of its ‘junk mailer in chief’ tag. He ensured that .

In a passionate speech at the Marketing Direct Green DM Conference in November 2007, he set out his first step in this journey: adopting recycled paper and investing heavily in digital communications for Capital One's acquisition and retention programmes.

He called on other credit card companies to follow suit.

Late last year Basini in favour of digital channels, in particular search.

Once a top three direct mail spender in the UK, Capital One is now no longer in the top 100.

It meant ending the financial brand’s long association with data giant Acxiom.
