CanWest signs IRN for new Bristol station

BRISTOL - CanWest MediaWorks, the Canadian owner of Bristol's new radio station, Original 106.5FM, has signed IRN to provide news.

Original will launch on Sunday (20 May), offering a mix of speech and rock music aimed at the male ABC1 demographic in Bristol. The launch follows that of Southampton's Original station - CanWest's first version of the brand.

This is the first time CanWest has worked with IRN, which provides news and content for more than 260 commercial radio stations with a combined audience of 20m.

Tom Hunter, managing director of Original 106.5, chose IRN because it "consistently delivers high quality journalism" and has "years of experience in commercial radio".

CanWest MediaWorks was the first foreign media company to be awarded a broadcast license in the UK when it won the bid for Southampton in September 2005 with Original 106 which went on air in October last year.

The company is a subsidiary of CanWest Global Communications Corp, which owns the coast-to-coast Canadian broadcasting network, Global Television.
