Cancer Research boosts donations with web memorials

LONDON - Cancer Research UK is encouraging donations with a new section on its website that allows people who have lost friends and family to cancer to set up dedicated pages to remember them by.

is free of charge and lets users create a personalised page dedicated to a loved one who has died of cancer that can include a photo, message, list of donors and a donations total.

People can notify friends and relatives of the page's existence via email and there is also a search facility on the homepage.

It was created by the digital agency .

Research has showed that the concept has been positively received by potential users and that it would serve as a valuable service to aid donations to the charity.

Roseann Wilson, head of e-business at Cancer Research UK, said: "We wish to provide our supporters with a simple way to remember their loved ones online and hope that the site will help meet some of their practical needs at what can be a very difficult time."
