C4 witnesses 40% fall as voters desert Big Brother 4

LONDON - Channel 4 has seen a 40% fall in the number of votes being cast for this year's 'Big Brother' evictions compared with last year and audience figures are down 8%.

In the first four weeks of 'Big Brother', 3.87m votes were cast, down from 6.5m last year, as viewers failed to connect with the latest bunch of housemates.

Viewing figures have dropped off from the show's opening high, where the first show in the new series recorded a record 8m viewers representing Channel 4's biggest audience so far this year.

The news coincides with the latest eviction nominations that has seen all three surviving girls -- Nush, Steph and Tania -- nominated by the boys in the house.

With another girl set to go, Channel 4 could end up with a house full of boys, which is likely to send viewing figures plummeting further.

To spice things up in the house this week Channel 4 agreed a 'Big Brother' contestant swap that saw Cameron change places with a contestant from the African version.

The Ugandan housemate Gaetano arrived yesterday and has already run into trouble, having called Tania "piggy", who reacted by telling the African to "fuck off" behind his back.

Things were not going too well for Cameron in Africa either. The 32-year-old fisher trader from Orkney lost his temper with one of his new housemates, Abby, telling her to "just shut up", after she was involved in a late-night row with one of the others.
