Burn Energy launches Facebook alter ego application

LONDON - Coca-Cola's Burn Energy drink is launching a Facebook application that allows users to digitally place their face on an alter ego who can then go out on online nightly adventures.

Once users have superimposed their digital face on an avatar and chosen their party clothes, they can choose to party with existing Facebook friends or to make "new friends at the bar".

technology allows users to give their avatar the opportunity to connect with other alter ego users and share random nightly experiences; providing the potential to create a new network of virtual friends.

The next morning, the application will have inserted personalised party photos on Facebook of the night out as well as a detailed blog documenting the adventures that happened.

Users have the option to pre- or post-approve anything before it is released on their social network.

The more nights users send out their Burn Alter Egos the more they raise their reputation and profile on the social scene, which gives them access to new looks for their avatar, new souvenirs to remember their night out and more invitations by other players.

Stafford Green, head of interactive marketing for Coca-Cola Europe, said: "People will feel their nightlife has doubled.

"It's creating a lot of funny confusion at our offices. People overhear that I went out last night with Eva and we partied in Paris with some beautiful models.

"And we have pictures on Facebook to prove the event! But in fact, it was actually our Burn Avatars, Eva'izzle and Stafford'elicious."

The application is available in English and Italian on Facebook and will be available in more European languages throughout 2008.

It was created by the internal European Group Coca-Cola digital team based in London and iChameleon Group based in Miami, Florida.
