Burdon, who will report to the industry body’s chief executive, Baroness Peta Buscombe, takes on the newly created role as the association attempts to look after its member interests better.
He will work across the association, with part of his remit to focus on direct marketing issues.
Burdon previously held senior account handler roles at creative agencies JWT, Lowe, McCann’s and Saatchi & Saatchi.
Buscombe highlighted the Advertising Association’s recent success in resisting harmful restrictions on advertising. “Added to those are issues around direct marketing, the digital media group, new regulations based on EU legislations, gambling, cars and others,” she said.
The Advertising Association is a federation of 30 trade bodies and organisations representing the advertising and promotional marketing industries including advertisers, agencies, media and support services in the UK.
