BT Vision grows to 150,000 customers

LONDON - BT Vision has increased its subscriber numbers from 20,000 to more than 150,000 in seven months.

The combined Freeview and pay-TV over internet offering finished the year with 120,000 customers, according to BT's quarterly results statement out today. Since then it has added more than 30,000.

BT launched the service late in 2006 with a target of getting 3m-4m subscribers within three or four years, according to commercial director Marc Watson.

BT recently completed deals for additional content with Paramount, getting access to an additional library of more than 150 new films, and with Disney in January, getting access to major US television series such as 'Desperate Housewives' and 'Lost'.

It also agreed a partnership deal with Microsoft to allow Microsoft's Xbox 360 games and entertainment system users to access the BT Vision pay-TV line-up.

BT's latest results showed it added 177,000 broadband subscribers during the last quarter of 2007, meaning it now has a total of 4.25m. It accounted for 35% of new connections during the quarter.

Its pre-tax profits fell 30% to £447m while revenues were up 1% to £5.15bn.
