BT and Lastminute join forces for restaurant bookings

LONDON - A joint venture between BT and Lastminute.com aims to give a boost to the UK restaurant industry.

BT has joined forces with to launch an interactive online booking system on the travel and leisure site.

The venture will allow restaurants to advertise table vacancies through broadband the moment they become available, and will include a live diary management and booking system.

A second initiative involves the roll-out of bright pink kiosks across the UK, starting this week, which will enable customers to book deals through the Lastminute.com site. The kiosks are already available in London and will be located in other cities.

The deal could lead to further deals with other retailers, BT said.

Pierre Danon, CEO of BT Retail, said: "These initiatives are the first in what is an ongoing relationship with BT and Lastminute.com.

"With this relationship we are able to offer a very powerful combination of BT's internet access and customer relationship expertise, with Lastminute.com's leadership in the lifestyle market -- aimed at both business and consumers."

Brent Hoberman, CEO of Lastminute.com, said: "The ability to do something spontaneous has just been made that much easier with this deal with BT.

"By making it easier to book, we're providing all restaurants with a brand new, easy route to market."
