The provides information about the charity’s work locally and internationally including the current floods in Pakistan and offers access to almost 200 services provided by the British Red Cross, from wheel chair hire, volunteering opportunities to training courses and charity shops.

Ben Mardle, the website project manager, said: "We've made the new website cleaner, clearer, quicker and simpler.

"Whereas the old website reflected the organisation's thinking, the new website has been restructured to reflect users' thinking."

Margaret O'Donnell, the British Red Cross head of digital media, said: "The online world is a critical platform for us to communicate with people, get them involved in our work, campaigns, raise funds and offer them opportunities to work with one of the largest voluntary movements in the world."

The revamped site includes easier navigation for people who suffer from mobility issues or disabilities such as deafness. The team has also created a guide 'What would you like to do?', containing a box the user can tick, which helps them find the information they need.

The site also provides a portal through which consumers can access social media communities which support the charity, such as personal blogs, Twitter, Facebook and YouTube.
