Brand Manager of the Week

Razin Ali, brand manager, Sunmagic

Describe yourself in three words.
Determined, enthusiastic tenacious.

How would you define marketing?
The commercial processes involved in promoting, selling and distributing a product or service.

What would you be if you weren't a brand manager?
In another world... a footballer for Liverpool.

What advice would you give someone starting their marketing career today?
I would say be open-minded and try to work on the sales side to gain a holistic view.

What attracted you to your current job?
The responsibility. I'm managing a major soft-drinks brand. I also sell the product, so I get the buzz of working with some of the biggest companies in the world.

What was your first job?
It was during my placement year at university, when I worked for Royal Mail as a marketing assistant.

If you weren't you, who would you be?
A genie, and I would cheat and grant myself wishes.

What's been your best freebie?
A good old cinema ticket - keeps the kids happy.

What can't you live without?
Football. I have to know what's happening with Liverpool.

If you were a brand, what would you be?
Brand 'Razin'.

What is your favourite campaign or slogan?
'Splash the sun on your taste buds' - Sunmagic, obviously.

Which ad campaign do you wish you'd commissioned?
Guinness' 'Surfer' ad.

Do you speak any other languages?
Bengali.

What makes you angry?
The great British summer weather - so much for the hottest summer of the year.

If you could get tickets to any event, what would it be?
Last day of the Premier League season, when Liverpool are awarded the trophy.

What's your greatest ambition?
Currently it is to help grow Sunmagic into a super brand.

If you had three wishes, what would they be?
Have hair. Use a comb. Be amazingly rich.

When was your finest hour?
Helping achieve the highest monthly sales of Sunmagic in June; we also did it in July.
