Brand Manager of the Week

Denise Wild, lifestyle marketing manager, UKTV

Describe yourself in three words.
Organised, impatient, honest.

How would you define marketing?
The strategy and tactics used to promote your brand and influence people’s preferences.

What would you be if you weren’t a brand manager?
I’d love to work in A&R for a record company.

What advice would you give someone starting their marketing career today?
To get as much practical experience as possible, and to be passionate about what you are working on, as it always comes through in what you’re doing.

What attracted you to your current job?
Working in an interesting industry for a company that never stands still.

If you weren’t you, who would you be?
Lauren Laverne is my heroine. She is the epitome of cool in my book – she’s intelligent, stylish, has a wicked sense of humour and used to be in a band.

What was your first job?
I was Kwik Save Kirkstall’s fastest cashier at uni.

What’s your favourite bar or restaurant?
I love The Indian Room in Balham and I never say no to a Pizza Express.

What’s your best freebie?
It’s not a freebie as such, but when I worked at Madame Tussauds I had to attend José Mourinho’s sitting for his wax figure. I reverted back to a giggling schoolgirl.

If you could get tickets to any event, what would it be?
It will almost certainly never happen, but tickets to watch Oldham in an FA Cup Final.

When was your finest hour?
Standing in my pyjamas and slippers in front of the whole of UKTV, presenting the new Home brand identity. It felt
a little like one of those bad dreams you have in which you turn up to work naked.
