The vast majority of people interviewed in the latest Brand Republic video said they tuned in to ITV1 to watch 'Britain's Got Talent' but then switched off. ITV1 appears to be able to pull in the big crowds, but not hold them.
Reasons for the switch off included complaints that there were too many soaps on ITV1, which is home to 'Emmerdale' and 'Coronation Street', and not enough comedy, while other viewers stick to their favourites on other channels.
A couple of people said they had been persuaded to watch more ITV1 due to 'Britain's Got Talent' because they had noticed the programmes on before and after the show -- indicating how crowd-pulling programmes create opportunities for the broadcaster to showcase its best programming.
Brand Republic also asked viewers whether they would still watch 'Britain's Got Talent' if it was on Sky One rather than ITV1.
There was a mixed response with some saying it did not matter what channel it was on because they would still watch it, while others said the show would lose viewers because not everyone has Sky.
A few people said that even though they had Sky they were likely to miss it because they tended to watch the terrestrial channels and did not search through all available channels.
