BR Video: Mickey Mouse should stay as he is

LONDON - Mickey Mouse should not be changed into a cunning and cantankerous character as it would "spoil the essence" of the 71-year-old Disney character and be "a very expensive mistake", according to members of the public interviewed by Brand Republic.

The in a bid to make him appeal to a new generation. The famous character has kept his look almost unaltered over the years but will now take on a "cunning and cantankerous streak" for a new Disney video game, 'Epic Mickey', to be released next year.

Brand Republic asked the UK public what they thought of the move. Most people were strongly opposed to the proposed changes.

One man said: "I think they should stick to the format that he's already had. That's why he's been successful for so many years."

Another man said: "I think giving traditional or very well known characters a modern makeover is a disaster. You can look at the recent 'Scooby Doo' stuff that's been done and I think if they try and alter the essential character of 'Mickey Mouse', it will be an expensive disaster for them."

Other respondents criticised the move, with one woman saying: "I think it would be a shame to spoil the essence of 'Mickey Mouse'. We've got enough cantankerous role models around for children I feel."

Those interviewed suggested other characters they would like to see have their own computer game included 'Felix the Cat', the 'Teletubbies', Johnny Bravo, 'The Simpsons', 'Thomas the Tank Engine', 'Bugs Bunny', 'Tom & Jerry' and 'Phineas and Ferb'.
