
Borders is offering ebooks for sale for the first time on www.borders.co.uk in ePub and Adobe PDF formats.
The new website has been designed by Borders' retained digital agency Tangent One. The new site has improved book-review pages and allows people to browse by electronic or physical book formats. The website will offer more multimedia content in the future, such as videos and DVD trailers, to help drive sales of books and DVDs.
New product pages encourage users to add products to basket with a clearer click to buy button.
Google meanwhile is planning to enter the commercial ebook business this year, according to reports. Unlike Amazon, Google intends to let publishers set their own prices.
Amazon has been trying to dominate the burgeoning ebooks market with the launch of its new Kindle ebooks reader, heralded as the saviour of newspapers.
