The event, Against the Grain, will be held on 21 June at the Hackney venue, focused on drinks including beer, genever and juleps, with a quiz themed with stories based on spirits, spices and seafaring led by brand ambassador John Clay.
With a history dating back to the 16th century, hosts will share with guests the history of the original 'dutch courage' drink and the influences it has on drink today.
The month-long residency will also see Kansas Smitty's serving Bols Genever in the traditional Dutch style: Kopstootje, which translates as "head butt" is the nickname coined for the infamous Dutch combination of a beer and a shot of genever, where the shot is to be drank without using hands.
According to tradition, to approach the tulip glass filled to the brim with genever, you must first bend over and slurp—to use your hands or to spill would be bad form. Afterward, you toast, and follow up with a refreshing beer.
Other spirit brands will also be hosting themed months at the venue, with Glenrothes Vintage Reserve lined up for July, Our London Vodka in August, Wild Turkey in September, Auchentoshan American Oak in October, Jim Beam Double Oak in November and Bold London Spirit in December.
