Beckhams help Hello! website record major traffic leap

LONDON – Content on David and Victoria Beckham has helped celebrity magazine Hello! record a major jump in traffic to its website, which recorded more than 10m page impressions last month.

Hello! magazine's June 2003 ABC Electronic audit gave its site 1,553,906 visits and 10,115,370 page impressions for June 2003, the latter figure a rise of 21% on the audit for March 2003.

With an average of 337,179 page impressions per day through the notoriously slow month of June, hellomagazine.com has increased site activity by adding new features that include , a chic paid-for area called Diamond Club and the celebrity-focused Travel section.

Tree Elven, website editor, said: "The new ABC Electronic figures prove that our imaginative and reader-responsive approach is working brilliantly. Our small, dedicated web team responds fast to news about our readers’ best-loved celebs. The day the Beckhams moved to Madrid, we presented The Beckham Files, a must-see section for hardcore fans. The carefully selected material we offer in Diamond Club is getting lots of interest and we’re thrilled to have added Travel to our portfolio. The site is a fantastic box of goodies, stuffed with information and entertainment."

Earlier this year, Hello! saw traffic to its site boosted on the back of the long-running court case involving Catherine Zeta-Jones and her husband Michael Douglas. The movie star couple won damages from Hello! after it published unauthorised pictures of their wedding at the New York Plaza Hotel in November 2000.

Hello! was attempting to steal the thunder from rival celebrity title OK!, published by Richard Desmond's Northern & Shell, which signed a £1m deal with the stars for exclusive coverage of the event. In turn, OK! is suing Hello! for £1.75m in loss of sales.
